Hello, I'm Jamie. My writing explores that in-between place that forms when identities collide.

Jamie reading a story aloud into the microphone at the Museum of Chinese in America while surrounded by listeners.
In Hristo Smirnenski’s parable, The Tale of the Stairs, the protagonist gazes up a marble staircase wanting to ascend to the top. He can only continue upwards if he gives up his sight, rendering him unable to recognize the conditions from which he came.

Similarly, I've always felt caught between worlds. The aftershocks that rumbled forth when my existence as a low-income immigrant collided with the insular world of the Ivy League, and now Silicon Valley, are a special flavor of cognitive dissonance.

My creative work often emerges from this rubble.

Things that fascinate me and influence my writing: technology, corporate angst, in-group vs out-group behavior, immigrant diaspora stories, and speculative fiction.

I graduated with a B.A. from Dartmouth College and am currently an M.F.A. candidate at the Vermont College of Fine Arts.

I love anything by Ted Chiang, Melina Matsoukas, and Kali Uchis.
